How To Overcome Colorism and Build Confidence – Embrace your Skin

Beauty is more than appearance; it’s the essence and nature of a person or object. Being beautiful is innate, not superficial or contrived. It’s not just a surface quality applied to make something appear desirable. Unfortunately, modern ideas of beauty are often tied to physical appearance and skin tone, which is why so many struggle to accept themselves. The cancer of colorism deepens this bias, favoring certain skin tones without truly understanding what those bodies or that skin actually need.

The skin is the largest organ of the human body. It protects internal organs, regulates body temperature, and allows us to feel touch, pressure, and pain. It also plays a role in waste removal through sweat and supports reproductive function by producing hormones and responding to hormonal changes. The skin is made up of three layers: the epidermis (outer layer), dermis (middle layer), and subcutis (deepest layer). Caring for the skin is about health and protection at every stage of life.

SKIN FROM INCEPTION TO ADULTHOOD

For babies (0–2 years old), use gentle soap and light products to keep their delicate skin clean. As children grow, encourage good hygiene and teach them the importance of sunscreen. Be quick to respond to skin issues before they worsen. Teenagers need simple, consistent routines, especially for acne and sun protection. Adults between 20 and 65 should maintain regular skincare habits, address concerns like dryness, wrinkles, or uneven tone, and consult a dermatologist for age-related issues when needed.

Growth manifests in different ways on teenage skin, sometimes as acne, especially the kind without visible sebum, just blood beneath the surface. At such times, parents often dismiss it as a normal part of growing up, leading teens to turn to peers for help. That is when they begin experimenting with products, usually without understanding their skin type.

Embrace your Skin

However, it is worth noting that you shouldn’t overwhelm your skin with too many active ingredients. There are far more options now than there used to be, so it’s important to do your research and figure out what your skin actually needs. Following skincare trends blindly can cause irreversible damage that is hard to undo. With all the marketing noise out there, it has become even harder to tell which products are genuinely helpful and which ones will only complicate things.

In fact people have recently turned to intravenous (IV) vitamin treatments as a quick fix for glowing skin, often without consulting a doctor. While IV therapy can deliver nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system, using it without medical supervision can be risky. Unregulated IV treatments may lead to infections, allergic reactions, or imbalanced nutrient levels. Moreover, there is limited scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of IV vitamins specifically for skin health in healthy individuals. It is important to approach such treatments cautiously and seek professional medical advice before undergoing IV therapy for cosmetic purposes.

I have once been in that place of trying so many products too, and they only made my skin worse. Over time, I learned that keeping it simple works best, especially because I have sensitive skin. For example, a lot of people think oily skin can’t be sensitive, but that is not true. The key is to understand your skin type and give it the care and nourishment it truly deserves.
